Since I don’t have profile pictures showing my face on the web, I upload my bio text in AIs to have a digitally generated face for me each day.
PROMPT (my bio):
"Patricia Borges is a Brazilian visual artist, web3 curator and writer. My multidisciplinary projects use photographs, NFTart, videos, installations, photobooks, webseries and three-dimensional objects that address notions of time, isolation and fragility, often associated with the female universe. Since 2020, I have been exploring the blockchain ecosystem as an artist and DAO council member. What initially constituted a technological research to develop my own creations evolved into a greater involvement with the digital art community."
I realize that the images generated by the machine to correspond to the imputed text reaffirm the imaginary of current femininity, replicating formulas that subjugate the female body in the “self-representation” of a young, white Latina woman - although physical characteristics are intentionally suppressed from the text .
Portraits constitute a direct function of the personality's effort to assert itself and become self-aware; they record a memory and express social position. Acquiring and affixing our own image disarms the anguish of finitude and demonstrates our own existence. However, using machinic tools to create other selves ends up suggesting metaphors of a strange and fragmented body, in the verge of self-dissolving.
